What happens when the disaster you’re covering is also happening to you? Environmental journalists can find themselves reporting on a crisis while navigating its impact on their own homes, families, and communities. This conversation will explore the emotional perseverance and practical challenges of continuing to work in the aftermath of a natural disaster, from balancing personal needs with professional responsibilities to navigating disrupted housing, communication, transportation, and other logistics. We’ll also consider how these experiences can be shaped by inequities that leave communities of color disproportionately vulnerable to disaster and its aftermath.
